Umbra
Elegance, in the dark.
About This Coffee
Deep roast. Toasted sweetness. Smooth finish.
Umbra is our dark-roast Indonesian espresso blend, roasted a touch deeper than Vero for more warmth, richness, and roast character.
Expect toasted almond and brown sugar in a full, smooth cup with lingering sweetness. It has everything we love about a darker roast—depth, warmth, and body—without the bitterness that so often comes with it.
As espresso, Umbra pulls a rich, concentrated shot and carries beautifully through milk. French press and drip reveal a softer, equally satisfying side.
If you love Vero but prefer your coffee a little darker, Umbra is your next step.
Brew Umbra at its best
ESPRESSO
★★★★★
Our favorite
Deep, concentrated, and smooth, with toasted almond, brown sugar, and a rich, lingering finish.
Start here:
18 g coffee → 36 g espresso
Aim for roughly 25–30 seconds.
Adjust your grind finer if the shot runs too quickly, or coarser if it runs too slowly.
MILK DRINKS

★★★★★
A beautifully balanced dark cup with plenty of depth, brown sugar sweetness, and a remarkably smooth finish.

★★★★★
Rich and concentrated, bringing Umbra's toasted almond and deeper roast character to the foreground.

Rethinking the dark roast.
Umbra is our exploration of how far we can take a roast without losing what makes the coffee worth tasting.
We take it a touch darker than Vero, developing deeper caramelization, toasted almond, and brown sugar while preserving sweetness and a remarkably smooth finish.
Dark roast coffee doesn't have to taste bitter, burnt, or one-dimensional.
It's our darkest expression—and our challenge to what a dark roast can be.

I love making my lattes with this one.
Perfect darkness. No burnt taste. Love the almond fragrance when it's freshly brewed.
Bold, but not too strong or burnt. Good job!
It has a lot of flavor for a dark roast.
It smells so good every time I freshly grind it and brew it. It's my favorite part of my morning.
Nice and strong flavor.
Delicious coffee. My instant favorite.
It cools nicely.
Love this as my go-to espresso in the morning with a bit of steamed milk.
Beans aren't oily, it's difficult to find a dark roast like that.
Yummy, I usually add a little milk into it.
I really like this one, it was nice to taste it before buying it.
I don't usually drink dark roasts, but I like this one because it has so much flavor.
Perfect balance between dark, but not bitter or burnt.
Kind of light for a dark roast.
I've made it in my aeropress and it comes quite well actually.
The coffee is always strong, fresh, and delicious. It’s one of our favorites!
Umbra was delicious this morning! I did a pour over in my chemex, 1:16 ratio at 185F. Such a delicious bean, great job!!
I love the nuttiness.
Excellent as pour-over too.
I tried Umbra this morning and very much enjoyed it. I prefer darker roasts and found it to have the right amount of boldness without being bitter.
Finally, a dark espresso that isn't harsh.
Great as espresso.
It’s deeper, but incredibly smooth. Nothing harsh about it.
Umbra changed my mind about dark roasts.
I usually don't like dark coffee, but I love this.
