What is Segara?
Segara means ‘ocean’ - a word shared across several Southeast Asian languages.
Like the ocean, our coffees are expansive, forged by time and elemental force. Born in volcanic highlands, carried across islands and oceans, and refined with precision, they travel with intention - from rooted soil to the hands that pour.
Specialty coffee from Southeast Asia is still a rarity - not because the land lacks character, but because few venture deep enough to find it. Segara was created to change that.
In every cup, you will taste the tension of altitude and rain, the quiet patience of slow farming, and the clarity that only care can bring.
This is a different wave of coffee.
Founder Story
Founded by Dr. Esther Singer, Segara is the result of a life spent at the intersection of science, soil, and culture.
The daughter of an Indonesian mother and German father, Esther grew up between worlds - a perspective that shaped her belief in honoring origin, building real relationships, and creating with intention. Segara reflects that same balance: rooted in tradition, elevated through care and craft.
With a PhD in Environmental Science, Esther has spent her career studying what makes ecosystems thrive - from the depths of the ocean to the soils of remote highlands. Her work explored how life unfolds beneath the surface, and how the health of a system depends on its quiet connections.
Segara is where that understanding meets intention. It is a tribute to origin, to craft, and to doing things with depth. In every cup, there is a story of care - and a belief that what’s built with patience and purpose will endure.
Our Philosophy
At Segara, we believe in quiet excellence.
We work directly with multi-generational farmers across Southeast Asia - walking their land, tasting their harvests, and building real partnerships. We look for coffees that feel complete: shaped by place, elevated by nature, and ready to speak for themselves.
We source with intention, roast with restraint, and only release what meets our highest standards.
