What is Segara?
Segara means “ocean” in Javanese (seh-GAH-rah).
Our coffees are shaped by the same forces—time, movement, and depth.
We work exclusively in Southeast Asia, sourcing directly from farms across Indonesia to bring forward coffees that have been seen in the Western specialty market.
This is a region with extraordinary potential—yet it remains largely underrepresented.
Segara exists to change that.

Founder Story
Segara was founded by Dr. Esther Singer, whose work sits at the intersection of environmental science, agriculture, and human connection.
With a PhD in Environmental Science and a background in soil, plant systems, and ecosystem health, her approach to coffee begins at the ground level—literally.
Healthy soil creates balanced plants.
Balanced plants produce expressive coffee.
That understanding shapes how we source, evaluate, and select every coffee we offer.
Raised between cultures, Esther built Segara as a bridge—bringing Southeast Asian coffees into a new context while preserving their identity and integrity.
Our Approach
We work directly at origin.
We select coffees for clarity, balance, and a strong sense of place—not just for trend or intensity.
We roast with restraint, allowing each coffee to express itself naturally.
And we release only what meets our standard—coffees that feel complete, distinct, and true to where they come from.
Why it matters
Southeast Asia produces some of the most complex and compelling coffees in the world.
But without direct access and intentional sourcing, many of these coffees never reach a wider audience.
